Our story
Founded in 2023 by Austin Piona, we’re more than a coffee shop. We’re a positive and welcoming environment here to shine a light on mental health and create community. We’re inspiring a sense of excitement and encouragement through a purposefully designed atmosphere all while serving great-tasting food and drinks (proudly serving Valor Coffee) to the West Chester community and surrounding areas.
After witnessing younger members of the local community struggle with mental health, Austin knew he needed to create Mayday. The word mayday originates from the word m’aider meaning “come and help me” and that’s exactly what Mayday strives to do — create an environment where people can come for help, get away from the day-to-day stress, and have a positive experience.
We’re the vibrance and positivity of the west coast brought to West Chester, PA. We’re craft coffee and a curated shop. We’re fresh flowers and inspiring events. We’re Mayday and we’re here for you.

Our guests come here to escape from their day-to-day life. Let’s really relish in that fact, make it experiential and give each customer individualized service. And when the line goes out the door, the wifi isn’t working, the toilet is clogged, we are just serving coffee.

meet the dreamer behind mayday
Hey, hi, hello — I’m Austin. I grew up in Philadelphia and have lived in California for the past 5+ years soaking up the sun and drawing inspiration from all that the west coast has to offer. After finishing college, I landed what I thought was my dream job, however, it ended up limiting my creative mind and not lending itself to my outgoing personality. Once the pandemic hit, I realized I needed to take a leap of faith and pursue something I was passionate about — creating an inclusive community, bringing awareness to mental health issues, and bringing a touch of the west coast back home. Mayday was born.
A few other things you should know about me — I live to lay in the sun, am inspired by traveling to places near and far, and have a deep love for baseball, all things coffee (obviously), pickleball, yoga, and anything outdoors. Ultimately I’m here to have fun and smile.
